‘Selenophile’ – Self Portrait 2020

She was born under a crooked moon, wrapped in starlight and silence, with hair the colour of rusted fire and a heart that pulsed to lunar tides.
She never quite belonged to the ground. Not really. She floated through her days like her feet were allergic to earth, like gravity was more of a suggestion than a rule.
By night, she wandered the forest, where trees grew tall and strange, their spines bent from eavesdropping on the stars. She climbed higher than anyone dared, draped in a gown that moved like it remembered the ocean.
Above her, the moon swelled. Close enough to taste. Sweet and silver. A light in the sky that never stopped glowing.
She spoke to it in a language only the lonely understood. Gave it all her untold stories, her deepest fears, the pieces of herself she didn’t know where else to put. And in return, the moon peeled itself open and poured light down her spine like honey through cracks.
Some nights, she swore she could hear it breathing. Other nights, she forgot her own name but remembered how it felt to belong to something bigger than a body.
She wasn’t lost. She was just elsewhere. Half-girl, half-moonbeam, living in the stillness between worlds where no one could follow.
